Families use our prenatal counselling services to promote optimal attachment security, infant stress regulation, and early emotional development. A child’s future development, both cognitively and socially relies on experiences that begin in utero. What you do from the moment of conception matters.

Functional

We begin from the premise that every family has limited resources of time, energy, money, mindful awareness, and capacity for stress and trauma. Given that resources are inherently limited, families must constantly assess and balance how to utilize their available resources. As parents we are constantly trading one resource for another. For example, we trade: • time for money in the form of a career • our personal, self-development time for the needs of our family or partner • money for time spent, to do the things that matter to us, such as vacations or hobbies • time with our children to regroup and achieve stability and peace of mind. Within this basic model, we are constantly evaluating the relative importance of our time, energy, finances, and emotional resources and making decision about how to invest in ourselves, our relationships, our children, careers, tasks of daily living, our financial futures, or our community. • Our functional analysis utilizes a system based on three primary components, the building blocks that foster a virtuous cycle of contingent parent-child relationships. • We support parents to generate a functional analysis of their unique family, taking into consideration their available resources and their priorities within this model. • We encourage families to determine their priorities through a process of appreciative inquiry. • We support and encourage families to implement changes that will bring them into alignment with their stated priorities.
